How to say strip tease (and mummy strip tease) in Chinese
The Chinese call the strip tease 脱衣舞.
- 脱, pronounced tuo1, means to shed, to take off, to escape, or to get away from
- 衣, pronounced yi1, means clothes
- 舞, pronounced wu3, means to dance, to wield, or to brandish
So, strip tease is shed clothes dance (or escape clothes brandish, however you want to think about it). That makes sense. Good word.
If you read our recent article on how to say mummy in Chinese, and if you're anything like me, now you're wondering what word you'd use to describe a mummy doing a strip tease.
You need to know the word 绷带, pronounced beng1 dai4, which means bandage. And of course you need to know the word 木乃伊, pronounced mu4 nai3 yi1, which means mummy.
Then you can make:
木乃伊脱绷带舞 = mu4 nai3 yi1 tuo1 beng1 dai4 wu3 = mummy-shed-bandage-dance = mummy strip tease.
