How to say "thank you" in Mandarin and actually pronounce it right
Lots of people learn to say "thank you" in Mandarin, which is awesome!! What is not awesome, is how frequently these people butcher the pronunciation to the point where it is almost unintelligable.
But do not fear. It's actually not hard for English speakers to pronounce this phrase. it just takes the right instructions.
First, for the record, the phrase "thank you" is 谢谢, which is romanized as xie4 xie4.
The correct pronunciation has two parts:
The first sound is "shhhhhhhh", which is just like the sound you might make to comfort a little baby or a sad person.
The second sound is "yeah", which is just the word "yeah", as in "yeah that sounds good" or "yeah, put them over there".
Put them together to create:
shhh-yeah.
But when you say it, make it one syllable by blending the two parts together.
谢谢 for reading this article and good luck with your new perfect pronunciation!
